Plastering

The use of plaster in buildings has been common place for centuries. Although many keen DIYers have tried to plaster the odd wall, plastering is a skill that takes many years to perfect and is not as easy as it looks! Dry walling has become popular in recent years, because it easier and less messy to apply. But plaster lasts longer, is more soundproof and is much better if there are curves to the wall. Once the plaster dries, it provides protection to the wall underneath and finishes the room, ready for painting. We usually apply plaster in two layers; the basecoat and the skim coat. This is why you may hear plastering being called skimming. The purpose of the basecoat is to prepare the wall and ensure that any cracks or uneven parts are covered prior to applying the smooth skim coat.

With many years experience, we are able to provide most plastering services. If you are unsure which type you need for your project or would like to discuss options, please do not hesitate to get in touch. We offer the following services:

The best option for old or period properties, as it offers breathability and flexibility to the walls. Lime plaster can help prevent damp which is common in older properties.

Sometimes called drylining, it is the process of screwing or nailing plaster board to a stud work frame or timber studs placed along the existing wall.

Dot & dab is the process of bonding plaster board to an existing wall with ‘dots and dabs’ of adhesive where there is no stud work to screw the plaster board to.
