Frequently Asked Questions
Can I paint new plaster once its dry?
Once the plaster is completely dry, it is ready to paint. You must do a mist coat first made up of 60% paint 40% water. This acts as a primer and the plaster absorbs the moisture. If you don’t do a mist coat, the new plaster will absorb the moisture from the paint, causing the new paintwork to peel.
What do you need?
We will need access to a source of water and electricity. And coffee (optional!).
Bet you’re good at icing cakes?
No I am not! I get asked this question a lot. Walls and ceilings are my forte, my wife is in charge of cake production.
Will I get a written quotation?
Yes. I will come to view the project and assess the labour and materials required to complete the project. I will then email a written contract with a detailed breakdown of pricing and my terms and conditions. If you would like to proceed, you can then get in touch to book in a date for work to commence.
Are you insured?
Yes, we are fully insured and hold public liability insurance and employers liability insurance for peace of mind. I have also completed an asbestos awareness course and am CRB clear.
How long does plaster take to dry?
The time taken to dry can vary massively depending on a number of factors. These include the thickness of the wall, the material of the wall underneath, ventilation and temperature of the room. You can typically expect after 2-3 days patches of plaster changing colour and becoming lighter and dry.
When do I need to pay?
For larger jobs, we will take a deposit upon booking and the remainder is due on completion of the job. For smaller jobs, payment is due on completion. The payment terms and our bank details will be on your quotation.
Which areas do you cover?
We have completed projects and offer plastering services all over South Devon. Check out our Facebook page to see where we have been recently!
Do you do commercial work?
Yes, we have completed many commercial projects from shops to hotels. Get in touch to see how we can help with your project.
Can you match the existing mouldings?
Yes, we can create plaster mouldings by taking a mould from an existing part, which can then be replicated. See our mouldings page for more information.
