FULL RENOVATIONS

Full Property Renovation

Having been in the trade in South Devon for the last twenty years, we are very well connected to reputable local tradesmen across all trades and are happy to recommend. We can manage a full property renovation for you, getting the correct contractors in at the right time and making life easier for you.

The cottage below is a thatched cottage from the 1700s. The property required a full renovation including a new thatched roof, re-rendering, new bathroom and kitchen, re plastering throughout, new flooring, new slate roof on kitchen and porch and redecorating. The aim of the renovation was to sympathetically modernise the property, retaining cottage charm whilst being a functional home.

This 1700 cottage in Newton Abbot had been unoccupied for years and therefore required a full renovation. Re-rendering the whole property and repairing any damage, allowed us to improve its kerb appeal. Using a textured render helped to keep the cottage feel, whilst adding a layer of weather protection to the original walls. We then repainted the whole cottage and a master thatcher was bought in to redo the ridge and rethatch the roof.

The bathroom was large, but needed modernising and using the space more efficiently. The walls were all re-plastered using one coat to give a slightly textured finish. By adding the wooden paneling, we created a useful shelf and a feature to the room. An elegant roll top bath replaced the old bath and the open cupboard allowed space to put a large separate shower. We aimed to retain character features, so we highlighted the beams and irregular lines. To add character, we also added curved edges to the plasterwork for a softer finish.

The kitchen was small and lacked work space. Blocking up the small window, allowed for more cupboard space in the new kitchen. The whole room was re- plastered in one coat for a textured finish. Curved edges to the plasterwork, solid oak worktops, Belfast sink and a classic shaker kitchen added country charm to the irregular space. This made the space more modern, user friendly and homely. For ideas for kitchen design, Pinterest is an invaluable site!

The master bedroom was a large, but irregular shaped room which had limited head height. By removing the false ceiling, we exposed the beautiful original beams and vaulted ceiling. We then added insulation and fireboards for protection of the thatched roof. The beams were sanded down and the whole room was re-plastered in textured one coat with curved edges to the corners. The addition of skirting and carpet adds a more cosy, finished look and completes the room.
